Visit To Pirate City One Of Many Highlights Of 2013 Season

(Canton, N.Y.)- When the SUNY Canton baseball team looks back on the 2013 season, one highlight of many will be their visit to Pirate City, the spring training headquarters of the Pittsburgh Pirates, during their spring training trip to Florida.

The Roos were able to visit Pirate City in Bradenton, Fla., practice on their field and speak to several coaches and administrators thanks to assistant coach Victor Rivera-Collazo, who has worked with the organization for several years.  Rivera-Collazo, the highest ranking Hispanic non-commissioned officer in the history of the United States Army, works with Pittsburgh's coaches and players on a leadership program he developed during his years in the service.

Several members of the Pirates' organization took time to speak with the team including: assistant general manager Kyle Starks; pitching coordinator Scott Mitchell; and Larry Sutton, who manages Latin American players for the organization.

In addition to the visit to Pirate City, former major league player Anthony Telford, who played for Baltimore, Montreal and Texas spent three hours talking to the team in their hotel and another two hours on the field at practice.
