Student-Athletes Share What Makes Their D-III Experience

Canton, NY – During Division-III week, which began on Monday, April 6th and concludes on Sunday, April 12th, we asked some of our student-athletes what it meant to them to be a Division-III student-athlete. Following are a few quotes from some of SUNY Canton's student-athletes from various teams.

"Being a Division 3 student-athlete has pushed me to work hard academically and on the soccer field. It has trained me to persevere, be a leader, and to always give back to our community. It has been a privilege, one I will forever be grateful for!" - Franchesca Trombley, Women's Soccer

"Being a Division 3 student-athlete allows me to play the game I love while receiving an education that will prepare me for my future. It gives me an opportunity to be a part of a great community with support from my teammates, peers, coaches, and professors." - Kristina DiNardo, Women's Soccer

"Being a Division 3 student-athlete means the world to me. You learn how to make yourself better physically and in the classroom." - Patrick Anunziatta, Men's Soccer

"It helps me grow as an athlete and as a person. It drives me to consistently put in good effort in whatever I do." - Tyler Gallagher, Men's Soccer

"Being a Division 3 student-athlete is a huge opportunity for me. It makes me work hard for what I want." - Erdous Lebron, Men's Soccer

"Being a Division 3 Student-Athlete makes me appreciate the game.  It also pushes me to be a better student." - Jordan Barriere, Men's Soccer

Being a student-athlete helps me build a connection to the college and our team. I enjoy the friendships I have made with my teammates and coaches." Lora Ardoin, Women's Hockey/Women's Lacrosse

"I like to support the other athletes I play with and how that helps us get better as a team. I also like how we can help each other improve on the turf through hard work and dedication. Being a teammate is fun." – Paige Hart, Women's Soccer/Women's Lacrosse

"It means I have to work hard in the classroom, so I can have the opportunity to work hard on the field playing the game I love so much."- Shannon Dowling, Softball

"Being a D-3 athlete to me is about having pride in ourselves and in our school.  It's about being able to excel in the classroom while playing the sports we love and are passionate about."  -Kaleigh Foran, Softball/Women's Soccer

"Being a D-III athlete makes you strive to do better both on the court and in the classroom. It makes the college experience 10x better, you make new friends that become your family for a lifetime." –Rachel Lowther, Women's Volleyball

"Being a D3 athlete means learning how to balance every aspect of your life, maintaining discipline, and having as much fun a possible along the way." – Kiana Archer, Women's Volleyball

"We may lack in resources compared to Division 1 student athletes, but we make up for it in heart.  It's easy to hang up the skates, or cleats; it takes self-discipline, determination, and most importantly heart to continue competing in the sport you love." - Taylor Pickering, Men's Hockey

"Being a student-athlete means working a little harder than every other student to reach our academic goals. It means spending all our time in the gym, class or in the rink. It means creating friendships with the people who have the same interest, values and responsibilities you do. It means being responsible not only for yourself but your teammates." – Margret Troiano, Women's Hockey, Softball
