Canton, NY – SUNY Canton is excited to announce plans to bring soccer coaching education to the North Country. Through a partnership with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), three coaching courses will be offered during the months of May and June.
"We are incredibly excited to work with such an upstanding coaching organization," said Head Men's Soccer Coach
Tim Penrod. "Having taken several of the NSCAA coaching courses, I cannot say enough about what a tremendous opportunity this presents to local coaches to enhance their knowledge of the beautiful game."
On May 30, the Level I Goalkeeping Diploma will be offered. The course is designed to provide a basic understanding of goalkeeper training, and introduce specialized training for those who coach at any level. On May 31, the Level II Goalkeeping Diploma will be offered, which enhances the basic principles introduced in the Level I course. "As a holder of both licenses, as well as a former goalkeeper, I believe that these courses can do a great deal to enhance a coach's knowledge of the most important position on the field," said Penrod. "Rather than have participants sitting in a classroom being lectured, the NSCAA emphasizes learning by doing. Coaches will have the opportunity to put in to practice the methods and techniques being taught."
Participants have the opportunity to take one or both courses. The Level I Diploma will begin Saturday morning and be completed that afternoon. The Level II Diploma will begin Saturday afternoon, and be completed on Sunday afternoon. For more information on the courses, please contact
