SUNY Canton Soccer Teams Get Involved with Youth Soccer

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton soccer teams have continued their tradition of getting involved with youth soccer teams in the local Canton area. Over the past couple of weeks the Roos have hosted over 150 kids to the SUNY Canton campus for a variety of different activities involving the game of soccer.

The men's soccer team held a 60 minute clinic working on fundamental skills on Wednesday, Sept. 11th. During the clinic current SUNY Canton players instructed individual stations with youth teams working on skills such as

shooting, passing, dribbling and ball possession. The players were cycled through six different stations.

The Roo men's soccer team then invited the youth players to two different soccer contests as the kids accompanied the players out on the field during the announcement of starting lineups and stood with them during the national anthem. The pre-k through second grade players joined the SUNY Canton men's soccer team on Sunday, Sept. 15th at their game against Keuka College, while the third through six graders took part in the pre-game festivities on Saturday, Sept 21st against Union College.

Meanwhile, the SUNY Canton women's soccer team held a 90 minute skills clinic for Canton youth soccer players on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 18th. Approximately 150 players attended the evening as the Roos took the kids through eight different skill stations as they worked to improve upon their skills.

"It was wonderful to have so many kids come and get to meet our players," said Director of Athletics Randy B. Sieminski. "It was a great experience for both the kids and our players. We look forward to welcoming local youth back to our campus again in the future with other sports as well."
