Canton, NY -- SUNY Canton hosted the 2013 New York State Regional Special Olympics which included Special Olympians from three surrounding counties.

Nearly 200 Special Olympians competed in a variety of events including multiple running events, basketball, field events such as softball throw, standing long jump, basketball skills, and many more. It was a full day event beginning at 10 am with Opening Ceremonies and concluding late afternoon around 4 or 5 pm. It was a spectacular event for our student-athletes, our sports management major students, faculty, staff, community members and volunteers.

The Opening Ceremonies were spectacular with the introduction of teams, a parade with music, the national anthem, speakers and much more. Medal award ceremonies were held throughout the day following the conclusion of each event. We look forward to hosting the 2014 NYS regional Special Olympics on May 3^rd at SUNY Canton.
